Art weekend in Whangarei

Explore the creative side of Northland when visiting Whangarei. We have a vibrant Art scene here which is evident as you explore the area with Art in mind.

All around Northland, you will find Artist Studios, Art Galleries, and public artworks. Especially Whangarei Heads have attracted many Artists to establish residences and studios on the peninsula. With over 45 resident artists this 6000-hectare paradise is believed to have the highest concentration of resident Artists in New Zealand. If you are interested in pottery, jewellery or perhaps Glass Art (amongst many other art forms) we can share contact details and the location of our resident artists.

The creative side of Northland is as strong as ever with the Hundertwasser Art Centre being the jewel in the crown.

The Whangarei Marina and Town Basin area is where you will find the Sculpture Trail, Whangarei Art Museum, and of course, the Hundertwasser Art Centre.

You can at certain times view live Glassblowing at the Whangarei Town Basin.

We have created a suggested itinerary for you below.

Arrive for a 3-course, chef in-house dinner at your chosen Villa.
Next day visit the Town Basin district and The Hunderwasser Art Centre
Lunch at Aqua (our favourite restaurant!)
After lunch, take a stroll along the waterfront and explore the sculpture and arts trail
Arrive back to your villa to heat and enjoy a preprepared dinner at your leisure.
