Moureeses Bay and Whananaki
Moureeses Bay is a stunning east-facing beach 4 kilometres north of Whananaki.
If you are looking to escape for peace and quiet then this is where you need to be. This is where you will find Hauora overlooking the bay. It is a quiet and end-of-the-road location that attracts anyone looking for a feeling of peace and serenity.
Moureeses Bay is a beautiful bay with a white sandy beach, rocky headland, rolling surf, and excellent fishing, diving, and snorkelling.
Whananaki is located a 45-minute drive north of Whangarei. With a tidal river dividing the north and south side the scenery is ever-changing. You have to pass through the seaside village of Whananaki to get to Moureeses Bay.
There are a few different walks you can explore.
The Motutara Recreation Reserve Walk is a 3.4 km easy walking track located at the start of the Motutara Reserve. Follow the signs from Rockell road and you will find it. Please stay on the track provided for the first section as that is through private farmland. Once through you are free to explore the many coves and secluded beaches.
Great for rock fishing and exploring in the right conditions.
